Saint Elizabeth, who during her lifetime was known as Elizabeth of Hungary, lived for only a short while, but during that time she was a child, princess, mother, queen, widow, and exile. She was one of the most pious women to ever live, and directed all of her actions and intentions to God, as well as regularly giving alms to the poor. Her life was devoted to the aid of the poor and the sick, thus her being the Patron Saint of Nurses.
