Saint Lucy was a martyr who died during the Diocletian Persecution. She is one off the eight women who are commemorated in the Canon of the Mass. Because of various traditions associating her name with light, she came to be thought as the Patron Saint of the blind and sight. Like Saint Agatha, she vowed to remain a virgin in defense of the faith, and is recognized for her courage.
